 Server Systems Development Manager with at least 10 years experience is required for a large technology company based in JHB West.



Education & Qualification

  • Matric
  • Computer Science Degree with Honours or Equivalent
  • Master’s degree will be an advantage
  • At least 10 years’ experience in software development
  • At least 3 years’ experience leading a technical team in software development
  • Certified developer (Java or .NET)
  • Experience in various projects
  • Full software project lifecycle experience



  • Exceptional Communications Skills
  • Advanced understanding of Enterprise Software Development (Platforms include Java/JEE, MS.NET, C/C++ and PHP)
  • Strong understanding in application architecture and design
  • Strong RDBMS skills (MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle)
  • Experience with development tools
  • Ability to work with 3rd party vendors and suppliers
  • Experience in high-volume transactional systems
  • Experience in terminal development



  • Management and planning of departmental objectives and key performance areas
  • Delegation of work tasks to ensure efficient and repeatable execution
  • Leadership and mentorship to ensure continuous development of staff competence and motivation
  • Develop in-depth departmental domain knowledge and develop subject matter expertise with identified staff members
  • Identify, employ and manage team members towards departmental objectives and goals
  • Ensure that the group is aware of the Business Units strategic plans and that team efforts are orientated towards its implementation through effective management of all aspects under your control
  • Be aware of the specific business unit targets and manage the achievement of these through team awareness.
  • Represent development at implementation/business meetings
  • Produce reports as required to monitor deliverables of the department
  • Monitor achievement or non-achievement of targets and take corrective action
  • Overall responsibility for quality, accuracy and functionality of development of staff
  • Be available on Standby to assist staff
  • Ensure the SDLC/development process is followed and updated as required
  • Be constantly aware and up to date with technology trends
  • Evaluate potential partner technologies
  • Aware of competitive products or services – be able to identify competitors and synergies within the market
  • Analysis and design of new products
  • Have an understanding of all current and new systems
  • Ensure risk identification and management including security and business continuity Assist with the determination of technical strategy
  • Ensure design integrity of the technical architecture
  • Co-ordinate development and architecture
  • Provide specialist input to projects and initiatives from your departmental discipline as required
  • Assist with debugging and testing for Quality Assurance
  • Design, code, test and debug programs or user-defined modifications
  • Operations report on possible system problems, investigate, escalate, culminating of information, propose solutions
